Manchester United will play Hannover 96 on Saturday evening for the Chevrolet Cup and also their last pre-season match of 2012. The Red Devils have struggled for goals in the last few pre-season matches, scoring three and conceding once in five matches. The last match against Barcelona in Gothenburg ended with penalties where Manchester United did not convert two plus one from within 90 minutes. Barcelona won 2-0 on penalties. It was a good match and certainly got the squad ready for some of the teams they are going to face in the coming season.
Manchester United have never faced Hannover 96 competitively, with their first clash tomorrow. The German club eased past St Patrick’s Athletic on Thursday evening with a 5-0 aggregate victory securing a place in the next qualification round for the UEFA Europa League. They also have a 9-0 and a 12-0 victory under their belts from their pre-season matches.
The Red Devils might face former players Ron-Robert Zieler and Mame Biram Diouf in tomorrow nights match. Diouf was sold last season and Zieler left back in 2010. This match will be the final dress-rehearsal before the Barclays Premier League kicks off for Manchester United against Everton at Goodison Park a week on Monday. With the way Everton played the last time they faced each other in April, the Red Devils really need to raise their game now.
